Transport Research Wing (TRW) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MOPSW) collects, compiles and disseminates data on Ports, Shipping and Waterways. It provides data support to various wings of the MOPSW for planning and policy formulation.
TRW collects data from various agencies of MOPSW and outside. Some of them are- 12 Major Ports, State Maritime Boards/ State Directorates, the Directorate General of Shipping, the Shipping Corporation of India, Indian Oil Corporation, Shipping Companies in the Private sector, Ship-Building and Ship-Repairing Public and Private sector Companies, Inland Waterways Authority of India, National Crime Records Bureau (Ministry of Home Affairs) and State Governments/ Maritime Boards. The collected data is scrutinized and validated for consistency and comparability and compiled accordingly.
The data is disseminated through the following annual, bi-annual, and monthly publications.

In addition, TRW regularly updates the data at OCMS Portal of M/o Statistics and PI on a monthly basis of Central Sector Projects of Rs. 150 crores and more; prepares technical and analytical papers/notes for various expert Committees and Commissions; coordinates with other Government/ Bodies to provide data on Port, Shipping, and Waterways, etc. The above-mentioned information/ reports are available on the Ministry's website.
